Hello, hello! Today is the final installment of the decor “Quick Fix” series, and Courtney from A Thoughtful Place is dishing about my very favorite little home accent, the almighty throw pillow.
Let’s just pause and appreciate the power of the throw pillow…
Imagine your sofa when you first purchased it. Remember those dreadful factory throw pillows that came with it? (GASP)
Now picture your sofa with those cute textured pillows you picked up from Target. (You know, the ones you snagged when you “just went to buy some bread and mascara” and just happened to stop by the home decor section on the way.)
So. Much. Better. Right?
OK, moving on to our sweet guest for the day. Courtney is showing us how to pillow swap like a pro. This girl has a simply gorgeous home, as you guys will soon be able to tell. She has been featured everywhere from Home Depot to Martha Stewart and a bajillion blogs, so obviously she’s kinda’ major.
I’ll shut up and let her do the talking…
COURTNEY’S QUICK FIX: Swap Out Pillows for A Whole New Look
Hi, everyone! I am so excited to be hanging out here in Heather’s neck of the woods. I love Heather’s style and am always so impressed with her blog. And quick fixes are speaking my language. As my children grow older, the amount of time I have to spend on my own home seems to dwindle. Any time I can make a big impact with very little time or effort I am all about it. Today, I wanted to share one of my favorite quick fixes: swapping throw pillows.
I have purposely kept our master bedroom very neutral. I don’t shy away from color and pattern in the rest of our home, but just love keeping our little haven clean and neutral. It’s also really great to have a fresh canvas to infuse color whenever I am up for it. When I need a design “pick me up” or feel the need to freshen things up without spending too much money, I swap out the throw pillows in my reading corner.
This is how this corner looks most of the year. Very soft color palette. The ottoman was a Target find and the pillow form HomeGoods. I am all about finding great deals when it comes to my home.
For the warmer months, I love adding a little bit of color. By simply swapping out the pillow and throw, the space reads entirely different. And this is something you can do by shopping your own home. Look around your family room. Is there a pillow that would add color to another spot in your home?
This time around I tried out a blue color palette. And Trader Joes is my go to spot for an inexpensive bouquet of flowers. Flowers are my number one quick fix for changing the mood of any space. They instantly make things feel fresh and pretty.
And here’s the deal! You don’t need to always buy new pillows. I have three or four different throw pillow combinations that I have picked up here and there for very little money.
TIP: Always look for pillow covers with a zipper. if they have a zipper, you can unzip and fold away in a drawer. You don’t need to store a large heap of extra pillows. Goodness knows I don’t have room for that.
Keep an eye out at HomeGoods or any of your favorite stores for seasonal pillows that can instantly change up a space in your home. Add a vase of fresh flowers and you’ll feel like you have a whole new room!
There really is nothing easier and cheaper than updating the entire look of a nook or a whole room than with some throw pillow lovin’. Thanks Courtney!
You’ll want to head over and check out Courtney’s blog for a bit today. Here is one of my favorite projects she posted of these DIY brass cornered frames.
Also her kids’ spaces are just darling. Just take a peek at her son’s room…
I told you, she’s good huh?
So be honest…How many throw pillows have you purchased in the last year? I’ll tell you my number if you tell me yours:)

I love the power of cushions. Some really great and easy examples. I still see many people not embracing cushions as a tool to change or refresh their living room or bedroom. Such a shame, I think, but hopefully this blog will help to put the message across!

Thanks so much, Karolina! I agree with you…when I see people sans throw pillow sin the bedroom or using the throw pillows that came with the sofa (yikes) I just want to help them out. They make such a huge difference!

I was in the process of redecorating my garden, and the only thing missing in the set are the throw pillows. I like how you mentioned that you add a little color to the pillows during warmer months. I think it makes the place brighter and warmer, so it might be good if the same design is applied in the garden. like your suggestions.
