I have not done a great job sharing my process for decorating my own home on the blog ever since I started helping clients with their homes. Since my 9:00-5:00 9:00-3:30ish job has me neck deep in all things decor, when I have time to work on my own space I tend to move pretty fast and want to get near the finish line before having to switch gears from creating a plan to chatting about it.
I know a lot of design bloggers do a great job taking you through every decision they make and why they do it…I just can’t muster the energy, you guys.
Is that OK?
Sometimes I wonder if you would even want to know my detailed thoughts, or if you’d rather just see the “before and after” pictures. Confession: When I read blog posts, I usually just want to see the pictures.
Except for Emily Henderson’s…because every word out of her mouth is like decor manna from the heavens.
But I figured a new house should have a new approach. For each room in the “new”/old house, I’ll share an inspiration post like this one, a progress post, and then the full reveal. For my office, I’ll actually be skipping the progress post and go straight to the full reveal next week.
(See…I told you I was no good at sharing the process. I’m already failing at a resolution I set exactly 10 minutes ago.)
A DEADLINE & A HOME TOUR
I agreed to join in a fun Blogger Stylin’ Home Tour next week hosted by my friend Lindsay. Some very talented ladies will be sharing a room in their home with the theme “Work & Play”. While it’s fun to be a part of blog hop, the real reason I said “yes” was for forced motivation to decorate this office.
I knew I needed a deadline, or I’d never get it done.
”
Even though a deadline can feel like a foe, many times it’s your best ally in decorating.
(I think there might be a whole new blog post in that sentence:) I started scheming for this room a few weeks ago, but just started purchasing new things last week. I had the budget and the timeline was already in place, so procrastination really wasn’t an option.
Panic mode set in yesterday.
Did I mention that the room is nowhere NEAR done yet?
I still don’t know what I’m doing on the walls (except for one piece) and several purchases have not arrived yet. I’ve even got a risky DIY up my sleeve for this weekend. It could be amazing, or it could leave me paint covered and heartbroken.

These are some inspiration images I collected over the last few weeks that convey the mood I want in the room. Since this space is just for me, I decided to go a little modern and very feminine.
Bring on the PINK!
…In small doses.
FLOOR PLAN
A corner desk was the best call for this room because of the placement of windows and doors. Although they’re not sexy, they sure are practical when you need a large writing surface and don’t have much room. My sofa from our old living room takes up the largest wall. While I never intended for it to land in my office, it’s been great having a comfy place for me to work when I’m not at my desk.
Since this room connects to our bedroom via the Jack and Jill bathroom, Stu and I often find ourselves sitting in here at night after Gemma goes to bed.
With a glass of wine and a bag of BBQ chips…because that’s exactly what you need at the end of the day if you have a three-year old.
This weekend I’ll be stalking the FedEx man hoping he brings all my goodies, so I can pull together this room on time. Be sure to head back next week because I have two HUGE room makeovers to show you, this room plus my favorite design project of last year:)
Ok, friends…you’ll see the outcome of this room shortly. Whether it’s “finished” or not. Wish me luck.
PS: If you want to see my progress, I’ll be posting some sneak peaks on Instagram this weekend.
I LOVE what you have going on here!!! It looks clean, fresh and pretty – but with a bit of edgy too!!! thanks for sharing this… Pretty sure I need to take a step back from my bedroom, and make more of a cohesive plan like this of how I want it to feel – that is great advice!!!! otherwise I may end up with just a hodge-podge of items and elements that I really love, but that don’t work together to create the feeling… right? Great info, thanks so much!!!!
Thanks so much, Julie! Taking a step back is usually the best thing you can do mid-process…even if you love the way things are going! Good luck with your bed room. Feel free to shoot me pics when you’re finished:)
Love your plans and can’t wait to see you pull it together. I know it will be fab!
Love your plans. I know it will be fab!
