Last year I shared my big decision to quit teaching and take my business from a side job to my main job. A lot has happened since then, so I thought I’d fill you guys in. You can check out some of the projects I’ve done over the last couple years on my design web site. I’ve gotten to work with some great families the last few months and am even more excited about the projects lined up for 2014.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I am getting paid to do this stuff. Arrange a book shelf? Pick out carpet? Shop for sofas? Yes, yes, yes! Don’t get me wrong, I am working until the wee hours of the morning, but I’d take creating mood boards over grading research papers any day of the week. I’m still trying to figure out how to balance actually sleeping while being a working mom.
New things on the blog
My first video…
This summer I shot a promo video for my design site, and I thought maybe I should share it here too. I hesitated for so many months because seeing yourself on video is a thousand times weirder than hearing your voice on a recording. The whole “That’s me?!?” feeling taken to another level.
Sometimes when I see videos from blogs that I’ve been following for a while, it can be unsettling. As in, “That’s what she’s like? Hmmmm, I liked her better in my head.” Yes, I have thought this about bloggers. Sad, but true. So I feel quite vulnerable sharing this video with you knowing that you might feel that way about me!
If it makes you uncomfortable, please just click off of it and continue to carry on thinking I’m that person in your head that’s probably way cooler than the actual me.
(I was trying to be uber professional, so I think it comes across kinda’ serious. Also, I still had some lingering Bell’s palsy from pregnancy, and I didn’t even have time to wash my hair the day we shot…I’m hoping that knowing this will help you judge me less.)
We literally painted the night before and installed everything that morning. It was CRAZY. When it was over, we sort of looked at each other and laughed, shocked that we actually managed to pull it off. I wish I had video of our midnight painting session to show you too…Hope you enjoy:)
Precious video! I love the whole vibe and great job on the room as well!
Thanks Beth. Wish we could have coffee in real life and “talk shop”:)
Oh Heather,
I like you MORE after watching that video. You come across as very sweet & sincere. I just loved it.
